GrabNet is a tool designed to easily collect and organize information while browsing the Internet. GrabNet stores information intuitively in folders and sub-folders on the local desktop. Users can casually grab snips of information, including images, text and URL's, for reuse, navigation and organization within a customized collection of folders.
GrabNet works in conjunction with your World Wide Web browser. At this time, Netscape Navigator (TM) version 1.1b3 or later is required for full GrabNet capability. Use of this browser with GrabNet enables drag & drop and retrieval of current browser page information for images, text and URL's captured while surfing the Internet. Some GrabNet features will not work with older versions of Netscape. ForeFront Group is currently in the process of testing GrabNet with additional World Wide Web browsers.
Requirements for the Macintosh
¥ System 7.1 or greater.
GrabNet uses Macintosh Drag & Drop, included in System 7.5. Extensions for Drag & Drop must be added to System 7.1. The GrabNet Installer will add the Drag & Drop extensions to your system if your are running System 7.1 or greater but less than 7.5.
¥ System 7.5 to use the Apple Guide Help included with GrabNet.
¥ Netscape Navigator (TM) version 1.1 or 1.1b3 for full GrabNet capability.

GrabNet V2.0.2 includes FFGMenu, a new pulldown menu that appears on the right side of the menu bar when your Web browser is active. This menu, denoted by a Web and Folder Icon, will allow you to access GrabNet functions directly from your Web browser, including Launch GrabNet, Add URL to GrabNet, and Paste URL to GrabNet.
FFGMenu can be used with GrabNet V2.0.0 and later. This extension is installed from the GrabNet Installer and does require a reboot. If you are already using GrabNet V2.0.0, you may choose "Install - FFGMenu only" to install just the extension. Or you may choose either "Install" or "Install - MacOS 7.5" to install both GrabNet and FFGMenu. Choosing "Install - Application only" will install GrabNet, but not FFGMenu.
Upgrading from GrabNet V1.0 or V2.0 Beta
If you would like to use GrabNet V2.0 with your existing data, you may do so.
When the Installer prompts you for the location, browse to the "parent" folder of the folder containing your existing GrabNet, enter the exact name of the existing folder in the "Install into folder" field (which you should see in the list), and click OK. The new GrabNet and supporting files will be placed in the existing folder; your GrabNet data will not be overwritten. When you start GrabNet V2.0, it will open your existing data.
Known Problems
¥ Apple Guide 1.2.5, that comes with System 7.5.1, causes GrabNet to crash. In order to use our help, return to AG 1.2 by either: (1) reinstalling from 7.5 with Custom Install, Utility Software, Apple Guide, or (2) de-installing from 7.5.1 upgrade with Custom Remove, Extensions, Apple Guide.
¥ Netscape navigates to its defined Home Page upon startup. Therefore, if a GrabNet URL is used to launch the Netscape browser (i.e., it was not already running), Netscape does not navigate to the selected URL, but to its defined Home Page. All subsequent navigations from GrabNet will send Netscape to the correct URL.
¥ Many objects or several large images within a single folder may require more memory than GrabNet has allocated. If this occurs, some images may be missing from tiles or the viewer. If you see this behavior, reduce the number of objects or large images within the folder or increase the application memory setting. GrabNet is currently set to 2MB memory (Preferred).
De-installing GrabNet and FFGMenu
To remove GrabNet from your system, simply drag (1) the GrabNet folder and (2) the file "GrabNet Preferences" in your System: Preferences folder, to the trash. To remove FFGMenu from your system, drag (1) the file "FFGMenu" and (2) the folder Browser Additions, both in your System: Extensions folder, to the trash.
